“About 1,600 people recently signed an open letter to the city calling for answers.
The letter was circulated by advocacy group Parent Leaders for Accelerated Curriculum and Education, known as Place NYC. It demands that the DOE keep gifted programs in place with no changes, set a date for testing in the first three months of 2021 and provide admissions offers to families before the 2021-22 school year begins.
Place NYC says the contract with test vendor NCS Pearson hasn’t been renewed. The group fears that the programs could be in jeopardy or receive “drastic, wholesale changes” without family input or “due diligence on the merits of such programs.”
