FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New York, NY – PLACE NYC (Parent Leaders for Accelerated Curriculum and Education), the largest all-parent advocacy group in NYC, announces the launch of its podcast, Schooled: Inside the Nation’s Largest School District. The show will focus on the real issues shaping the future of the nation’s largest school system and the families who depend on it.
With enrollment declining, standards under debate, and education increasingly entangled in political priorities, Schooled brings together parent voices, data, policy context, and lived advocacy experience. Hosted by public school parents Deborah Alexander, Yiatin Chu, and Josh Kross, the podcast takes on the issues parents care about most, from the future of gifted programs and accelerated opportunities to the widening gap between policy ideals and classroom realities. Schooled will center thoughtful, informed conversation grounded in the belief that every child deserves an education that meets their individual needs.
“Doing the Schooled podcast seemed like a natural extension of our advocacy and what we do best: educating fellow NYC parents to help them make informed decisions. For years, we have offered public school parents advice, helped families navigate admissions, and shared education news to help them stay updated”, said Jean Hahn, Vice President of PLACE NYC. “So a podcast is another way to broaden our advocacy.”
The first podcast episode discusses the appointment of Kamar Samuels as the new NYCPS Chancellor and Mayor Mamdani’s flipflop on mayoral control. Schooled is available for free on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. Comments can be e-mailed to schooled@placenyc.org.
