“Mr. Broomes and other supporters of testing believe the program could diversify by administering the test to all students in the city, instead of only to those whose parents sign them up. The DOE also could place the program in more neighborhoods where minority families live, said Mr. Broomes, whose Brooklyn-based family traveled two hours a day by train for their sons to attend the classes. It also could raise awareness about the program in minority communities, as many minority families often don’t know about the program or often opt to send their children to highly ranked charter schools to avoid long commutes, he said.”
