“On September 21, the day after the article came out, a member posted in PLACE NYC’s private Facebook group, “Poor child, to have her closest people betray her for a phantom cause.” Commenters on the post suggested, somewhat contradictorily, that the whole episode only serves to pad Hannah-Jones’s daughter’s application to a fancy college. On September 24, PLACE NYC released a podcast episode titled “The Soft Bigotry of Nikole Hannah-Jones” with co-president Yiatin Chu lamenting that “her child will never get those ten years back.”
