The voices at this event echoed the majority of parents we heard at the DOE borough events: keep screened admissions.
Our families are from all racial and socio-economic backgrounds, essential workers of all professions, new immigrants and multi-generational New Yorkers. What we have in common is the belief that our NYC public schools must have rigorous, academically strong programs for students who are prepared to achieve in those schools. We must not penalize these families and students – let’s use reasonable alternatives to keep screened middle and high school admissions, while simultaneously working to make sure all kids in all schools are receiving the quality rigorous academic education they deserve that will help them achieve their potential.
