PLACE NYC Calls for Immediate Pause in Community Education Council (CEC) Elections Due to Incorrect Ballots

New York, NY – Parents Leaders for Parent Leaders for Accelerated Curriculum and Education (PLACE NYC) urgently demands an immediate pause in the ongoing Community Education Council (CEC) parent election process due to the distribution of incorrect ballots, which undermines the fairness and democratic integrity of the vote.

The errors in the ballots compromise the ability of parents to cast informed and accurate votes, rendering the process fundamentally flawed.

PLACE NYC stands firm in its commitment to ensuring transparent, equitable, and democratic elections for all parents. Allowing the election to proceed under these circumstances risks disenfranchising voters and eroding trust in the process.

“We cannot allow a flawed election to move forward. The integrity of parent representation is at stake,” said Yiatin Chu, Co-President of PLACE NYC. “Voting must be paused immediately until the errors are corrected and every parent is assured their voice is heard fairly.”

PLACE NYC calls on NYC Public Schools (NYCPS) to:

  • Halt the voting process immediately.
  • Investigate the cause and scope of the ballot errors.
  • Issue corrected ballots and ensure proper distribution.
  • Provide clear communication to all affected parents about the error, the steps being taken to rectify the situation, and when voting will resume.

PLACE NYC will continue to advocate for a transparent and fair resolution to this issue, ensuring that democracy is upheld for parents and guardians.
