Dear Fellow Advocates,
Today, on the last day of the Public School year, there is much to celebrate. First and foremost, the academic and personal achievements of all the amazing students who persevered and continued to learn and grow during the most unimaginable and difficult of circumstances. Tell your students how proud you are of them, and find a way to mark the occasion in a special way.
The 2020-21 school year was a rollercoaster, and those ups and downs take their toll. But through it all, we are grateful for all your efforts and advocacy. We were faced with the pandemic, ever-shifting school openings and closings, new rules and mandates, sporadic live instruction and the new world of online learning. There were multiple attacks on admissions policies and curriculum debates. For the first time, public school parents voted in CEC elections. The DOE changed Chancellors in the middle of the year, and we put all the NYC Mayoral candidates under the microscope in order to determine which will be the best overall advocate to match the PLACE NYC mission statement – calling for a high quality, challenging education for every student in all NYC DOE Public Schools by increasing the academic rigor of all school curricula. We hope Eric Adams, the probable next Mayor, will rise to the occasion.
The work of PLACE NYC continues through the summer, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with you. Thank you, and Happy Summer!

Will Adams be the Next NYC Mayor?
Although nothing is yet official, it appears as if Eric Adams has won the Democratic primary in the NYC Mayoral election. As you may recall, Adams was co-endorsed by PLACE NYC. Because of the new rank choice voting system, the final tabulation of ballots won’t be known for several weeks.
You can read about the PLACE NYC endorsement of Adams here.
